Authorities have arrested a woman on a murder charge nearly a year after a newborn baby was found in a New Hampshire pond.

The baby girl, known as Baby Jane “Grace” Doe, was found dead on March 27, 2025, in Manchester’s Pine Island Pond. Investigators determined she had been there for no more than two days.

The office of New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella said Thursday that 26-year-old Hepay Juma of Manchester had been arrested.

She is charged with reckless second-degree murder in the death of her child, Formella’s office said.

Authorities previously asked for tips and announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. State prosecutors did not say Thursday whether money had been awarded.

Investigators are continuing to look into the circumstances of the baby’s death.

No further information was immediately available.

An arrest has been made in connection with the suspicious death of a baby girl whose body was found in a Manchester pond.

Hepay Juma, 26, of Manchester, was arrested and charged with reckless second-degree murder for causing the death of her child, Baby Jane “Grace” Doe, the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office said.

“We felt that there was sufficient evidence to proceed with an arrest for reckless second-degree murder,” said Senior Assistant Attorney General Nicholas Chong Yen. “That means that this was a homicide, that Hepay Juma caused the death of Baby Doe.”

The baby’s body was found floating in Pine Island Pond by a kayaker on March 27, 2025.

Police said they determined that the baby was placed in the pond at some point during a three-day period from March 25-27, but they were unable to identify the child.

For months, police asked the public for help, offering a $5,000 reward for information in the case. Few details emerged.

In May, a public funeral was held at Connor-Healy Funeral Home for the unidentified infant. Investigators referred to her as “Baby Grace” to reflect the compassion shown by the community.

The Attorney General’s Office credited the Manchester Police Department with continuing to pursue leads over nearly a year.

“Who were successful in investigating thoroughly throughout the last, well, at this point, almost a year, and making sure that no stone was left unturned and pursuing all the investigative leads that they had,” Chong Yen said.

The Attorney General’s Office confirmed that all parties involved in the case have now been identified.

News 9 has learned the child’s father was part of the investigation, but his identity has not been released.

The Attorney General’s Office would not share the baby’s real name or her cause of death, but confirmed she was a newborn.

“One of the things that we can say is that the baby was a newborn,” Chong Yen said. “In terms of how old, in terms of weeks, if that were the case, you know, we can’t really go into that amount of detail.”

Anyone who recognizes Juma’s name or photo and has relevant information is asked to contact investigators.
